17th of Tammuz 5786 in Deal

We're still building our Deal listings for 17th of Tammuz 5786. The Seventeenth of Tammuz (Shiva Asar B'Tammuz) is a minor fast day commemorating the day the Romans breached the walls of Jerusalem in 70 CE, three weeks before the destruction of the Second Temple. It also marks four other historic tragedies: Moses breaking the first set of tablets when he saw the Golden Calf, the cessation of the daily tamid offering in the First Temple, the burning of a Torah scroll by the Roman officer Apostomus, and the placing of an idol in the sanctuary. The fast begins at dawn and ends at nightfall, opening a three-week period of national mourning known as Bein HaMetzarim (the Three Weeks) that culminates with Tisha B'Av. During this period, weddings, live music, haircuts, and other joyous activities are restricted, with stricter mourning customs kicking in during the final Nine Days from Rosh Chodesh Av.
