How It Works

Accurate Shabbat times, every week

Shabbat candle lighting times vary by city — the exact time depends on your latitude and the sunset for that Friday. Kosher Connect calculates times for 25 major Jewish communities in the United States, sourced from the same astronomical data used by Hebcal and updated automatically each week.

Candle lighting is observed 18 minutes before sunset on Friday, the standard custom across most communities. Some cities and communities use different offsets (40 minutes in Jerusalem, 24 minutes in others) — we follow the most common 18-minute custom for US cities.

Havdalah marks the end of Shabbat when three medium-sized stars are visible — approximately 8.5 degrees below the horizon (the tzeit hakochavim standard). This is the most widely accepted Halachic definition for ending Shabbat.

Each city page also shows this week's parsha (Torah portion), any holidays observed during the week, and links to verified kosher restaurants in that city — perfect for planning Friday night dinner or post-Shabbat meals.
